Language legislation: Szijjarto wants amendments for the Hungarians in the laws of Ukraine

The Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto believes that Ukraine will be able to ensure that the Hungarians in Transcarpathia can learn the state language without complying with the rules of the new educational legislation.

He said that at the press conference in Kyiv, answering the questions of the Yevropeiska Pravda.

As you know, the Law on General Secondary Education, adopted in January 2020, provides for the increase in the volume of instruction in state language in Hungarian schools – from 0% in the first grade to 40% in the ninth and 60% in the twelfth grade.

Szijjarto opposed this.

"We believe that the Hungarians will be able to learn the state language without increasing the number of subjects in Ukrainian. We are ready to help financially to make teaching Ukrainian effective," – he explained.
