Transcarpathian forests need protection in all senses of the word (PHOTOS)

Forest issues have a corruption component, but they are actively working on them to turn the forest into a country’s livelihood.

Meanwhile, forests need protection in all senses of the word, the press service of the Transcarpathian Regional Forest and Hunting Range Administration informs. In particular, protection from diseases. Thus, the first symptoms of the disease of spruce plantations were recorded by the forest protection in the 1990s. Many scientists attribute this problem to the agroclimatic zone shift. The director of the Rakhiv Forestry Research Institute Volodymyr Prystupa tells about the impact of this European trend on the health of the spruced trees.

Last year, the fallen spruce trees became easy victims of stem pests, and it was caused by adverse weather phenomena, such as hurricane winds, droughts and related changes in the hydrological regime, as well as the chronic weakening of the forest plantations. Another factor contributing to the withering of the spruce trees is the bark beetle. This pest invades weakened plantations and enhances the process of their death. It parasitizes over large areas.

According to Valeriy Murha, the head of the Transcarpathian Regional Forest and Hunting Range Administration, the priority area of the forest protection service activity is the development and implementation of biological methods and methods for controlling harmful insects and forest diseases. Such methods are not harmful to the environment and are used in forests, where the use of chemical methods is prohibited.
