Uzhgorod will join the world Earth Hour event

On Saturday, March 24, 2018, at 20:30, people around the world will turn off the light for one hour, the Earth Hour, as a symbol of concern for the future of the Planet and unity in the desire to protect nature.

Recall that the Earth Hour was founded in 2007 by WWF in Australia in order to draw attention to the issue of climate change. Ukraine joined the global campaign in 2009. The theme of this year’s campaign – Connect2Earth – emphasizes that people began to lose touch with the planet, which we need to restore.

Turning off the light for one hour does not aim at direct energy saving. This is a symbolic act that should attract the attention of people, organizations, business, countries to the ecological problems of the Planet and bring them together to solve these problems.

Uzhgorod will also join the Earth Hour – on Saturday, March 24, from 20.30 to 21.30, the decorative illumination of city public institutions will be switched off.

Uzhgorod citizens, organizations, private entities, state institutions, etc. are asked to support the initiative of the World Earth Hour campaign by shutting down unnecessary equipment and lighting for an hour.
