Almost three times more weddings than funerals (STATISTICS)

As of January 1, of this year, the population of Transcarpathia was 1,258. 2 thousand, urban population accounts for 36.7%, rural – 62.3%. This information was presented by the head of the Main Department of Statistics in Transcarpathian region Galina Grynyk on Tuesday at a press conference in the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration.

She also noted that our region differs from other regions of Ukraine and is among the leaders in terms of the number of rural population. She explains that this is due to the fact that the vast majority of enterprises, as well as public institutions are concentrated in the cities, the regional center. Therefore, the rural population is predominantly self-employed (farming, etc.).

At the same time, over the past year, 6,013 people arrived in the region, of which 537 came for permanent residence. Among them, 2,590 are men and 3,423 are women.

As for people, who left Transcarpathia during 2017, their number is 6,110 people, of whom 471 left for permanent residence. Of the total number of those who left, 424 people left to Europe, the rest left to the CIS countries and other regions of Ukraine, or "migrate" within Transcarpathia.

Since our region is specific, as it borders on four European countries, the State Statistics Service in the region in 2016 conducted an interesting study. We wanted to know if we have a problem with child labor migration (when parents take children with them to work abroad). Thus, the questioning of people crossing the border, gave a comforting result. "There is no child labor migration. Only tourist trips were recorded", – Mrs. Grynyk summed up.

We also have interesting figures on fertility and mortality. Thus, 14,552 Transcarpathians were born last year, while 15,077 people died, including 165 children under the age of 1 year. We have a negative fact – more people died than were born. "Since the independence of Ukraine, for the first time (in 2017) we have a natural decrease in the region’s population (by 525 people)," – Mrs. Grynyk said.

But there are comforting news – 7,388 marriages were registered last year, while the number of divorces is 2.6 times less (2816). It is attributed to high religiosity of the Transcarpathian population and the preservation of traditions.
