Prosecutors are investigating the destruction of the “Fundanych house” in Uzhgorod

The prosecutor’s office launched a criminal investigation into the destruction of the Fundanych store in Uzhgorod.The proceeding is registered in the Unified register of pre-trial investigations.   

According to the head of Uzhgorod local prosecution office Dmytro Kirilenko, while monitoring information space, the prosecutors found the information about the demolition of another historical monument of Uzhgorod.

This refers to the destruction of the Fundanych store in Uzhgorod carried out under the pretext of "reconstruction" with addition of residential house at Voloshin st., 47, where Tsiril Fundanych store was once located.

Given the public reaction to this incident and violation of the Law of Ukraine "On Protection of Cultural Heritage", Uzhgorod local prosecutor’s office launched criminal investigation into the destruction of the historic building of Fundanych store in Uzhgorod, which is listed in the historical and architectural plan of the city as a cultural heritage object with appropriate conservation status (Part 2 of Art.298 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), – the press service of the Prosecutor’s Office in Transcarpathian region informs.

The prosecutor said that the sanction of Part 2 of Article 298 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – deliberate illegal destruction of or damage to cultural heritage objects or parts thereof – provides for punishment in the form of a fine up to one hundred tax-free minimum incomes, or restriction of liberty for up to three years, or imprisonment for the same period with or without disqualification to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years.
