Streets in Uzhgorod will be named in honor of heroes fallen in the Donbas

Moskal has decommunized Uzhgorod – streets named in honor of the heroes killed in the Donbas, leaders of Carpathian Ukraine and prominent Transcarpathians have appeared in the city

Under the Law of Ukraine "On the condemnation of Communist and National Socialist (Nazi) totalitarian regimes in Ukraine and the prohibition of their symbols", the head of the RSA Hennadiy Moskal signed another decree on street renaming. This time, in the regional center Transcarpathia. 

According to the document, Belinsky Street in Uzhgorod was renamed to Vilmos Kovacs Street (known Hungarian Transcarpathian writer and translator, who lived and worked for a long ime in Uzhgorod, in the publishing house "Karpaty").

Blagoev Street in Uzhgorod – to Fedir Potushnyak Street (Transcarpathian writer, scholar-ethnographer. Buried in Uzhgorod).

Bozhenko Street in Uzhgorod – to Volodymyr Goshovsky Street (Ukrainian folklorist, ethnomusicologist, founder of cybernetic ethnomusicology. He was born and buried in Uzhgorod).

Ivan Vash Street in Uzhgorod – to Vasyl Baloh Street (captain, commander of an artillery battery of the 128th mountain infantry brigade. He died in July 2014 as a result of shelling in Luhansk region. Buried in Uzhgorod on the Hill of Glory).

Galan Street in Uzhgorod – to Heroyiv Krut street.

Kolhospna Street in Uzhgorod – to Yuriy Birovchak Street (gunner of the 53rd Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He died in November 2015 in Donetsk region, buried in Uzhgorod).

Kotovsky Street in Uzhgorod – to Dmytro Georgieva Street (Captain of the 128th mountain infantry brigade. He died in July 2014 in the battle in Luhansk region, buried in Uzhgorod on the Hill of Glory).

S.Lazo Street in Uzhgorod – to Karoy Meysarosh Street (the first historian of Uzhgorod, in 1861 published the book "History of Uzhgorod from ancient times to today").

I.Mondok Street in Uzhgorod – to Oleksandr Kapush Street (senior soldier of the reconnaissance platoon of the 128th mountain infantry brigade. He died in February 2015 as a result of rocket and artillery fire near the town of Chornukhyne in Luhansk region, buried in Uzhgorod on the Hill of Glory).

Parkhomenko Street in Uzhgorod – to Stepan Dobosh Street (one of the founders and first rector of Uzhgorod University).

Paris Commune Street in Uzhgorod – to Serhiy Martyn Street (driver of the military unit 1778.He died in June 2014 in the battle near the village of Metalist in Luhansk region, buried in Uzhgorod on the Hill of Glory).

Sydoryak Street in Uzhgorod – to Ivan Irlyavsky Street (poet, journalist and public figure, one of the most active creators of Carpathian Ukraine, shot at Babi Yar in 1942).

Telman Street in Uzhgorod – to Andriy Palay Street (gunner of the firepower preparation company of the 128th mountain infantry brigade. He died in February 2015 as a result of rocket and artillery fire near Debaltseve in Donetsk region, buried in Uzhgorod on the Hill of Glory).

P.Terek Street in Uzhgorod – to Igor Rozlutsky Street (driver-medic of the medical company of the 128th mountain infantry brigade. He died in November 2014 near Stanytsia Luhansks, buried in Uzhgorod on the Hill of Glory).

Vatutin Street in Uzhgorod – to Ivan Firtsak Street (Transcarpathian wrestler, freestyle fighter, in 1928 was recognized as the strongest man in the world).

Lavrischev Street in Uzhgorod – to Roman Shukhevych street (Chief of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, one of the leaders of the National Defense General Staff of Carpathian Ukraine).

9 Sichnya Street in Uzhgorod – to Sichovykh Striltsiv Street. 

Ostrovsky Street in Uzhgorod – to Karpatskoi Ukrainy Street.

Plekhanov Street in Uzhgorod – to Oleksandr Popadynets Street (junior sergeant, squad commander of the military unit A1778.  Killed in combat in June 2014 in Luhansk region, buried in Uzhgorod on the Hill of Glory).

Jambul Street in Uzhgorod – to Vasyl Komendar Street (botanist, Sc.D., professor of Uzhgorod National University and "Kyiv-Mohyla Academy", buried in Uzhgorod).

Lokota Street in Uzhgorod – to Zoreslav Street (writer, an active leader of Carpathian Ukraine).

Rothman Street in Uzhgorod – to Vasyl Vyshyvany street (real name – Wilhelm Franz von Habsburg-Lothringen – Ukrainian military leader, politician, diplomat, poet, Austrian Archduke of the Habsburg dynasty, colonel of the Legion of Ukrainian Sich Riflemen).

Ivan Turyanytsia Street in Uzhgorod – to Stepan Klochurak Street (social and political activist, president of Hutsul Republic in 1918-1919).

Krasnodontsiv Street in Uzhgorod – to Oleksandr Blystiv Street (leader of the OUN in Khust, Lieutenant of the Carpathian Sich. He died in March 1939 in Khust prison during the occupation of Carpathian Ukraine by Hungarian troops).

– Uzhgorod city council did not rename streets before the established deadline, and at the last session postponed the issue again – H. Moskal said. – So, the requirements of the law were fulfilled by my decree.   I personally renamed a number of streets in honor of those Uzhgorod residents who were killed in Donbas. All the heroes who sacrificed their lives defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine should be properly honored and immortalized.
