Transcarpathian Foresters showed the real picture of illegal logging and smuggling of forest (PHOTOS)

The press tour started with forests of Velyky Berezny district, one of the most depressed districts of Transcarpathia, where media representatives were told and shown the affected areas after windfalls of 2014.

According to Chornoholova Forestry forester Pavlo Hoyer, people in Transcarpathia (regardless of employment, level of well-being, area of residence) simply cannot afford the required amount of firewood. But they need to heat their houses! And not all of them have natural gas supply. So they find ways out. Also, lack of funds and low living standards force people to illegally cut trees, not only for firewood, but also for repair and construction purposes.

During the press tour, media workers also visited forest nurseries and natural renewals.

"Lately, the situation regarding the forests of Transcarpathia has been quite often covered in negative light, for which there are objective and subjective reasons. We do not hide anything and this project is an innovation, aimed at highlighting the objective situation in the state forestry. We are grateful to the media for their interest" – the head of the Transcarpathian Forestry and Hunting Administration Valeriy Murha said – principles of open and transparent policy of coverage of our activities are the priority at our department and state forest enterprises. We thank the journalists for effective partnership, which we intend to fully support and develop."

Recently, the problem of illegal felling has been very actively covered by the media and people in social networks. Indeed, judging by the numerous photos, the situation is very bad.
