Antisocial people take advantage of Uzhgorod residents’ desire to use an eco-friendly and healthy means of transportation – bicycle. Absence of parking racks, proper law enforcement, etc. leads to a high number of bike thefts.
Besides the measures, which we expect in vain from those who are supposed to protect us from such thieves, the community comes up with its own forms and methods of counteracting. One of those is suggested by the Karpatskij Objektiv: One who is informed is warned!:
"If you decided to buy a bike from dubious persons, we advise to make sure it is not stolen. Our publication is compiling the database of the bicycles which are listed as stolen or wanted. Victims can submit all the details on their bicycles and contacts for a feedback. So, before buying a bike from someone, you can look up the list of stolen bicycles on our website and maybe find the one that you are offered to buy among them" – the publication recommends.
