Visegrad Library is planned to be created in UzhNU

The Regional Council Chairman Volodymyr Chubirko and the head of the Regional State Administration Vasyl Hubal addressed the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Slovak Republic in Ukraine Juraj Sivacek about the establishment of the Visegrad Library based in UzhNU.

"Uzhgorod National University’s library has more than 950 thousand books, including 21 thousand especially valuable publications that make up the historical and cultural heritage of the peoples of Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, Ukraine and the Czech Republic and require appropriate storage conditions in accordance with European standards. Currently, the university library book fund is located in different buildings and none of them has proper conditions for storage of books, especially valuable ones. The bulk of the UzhNU Library fund is concentrated in the rooms on the first and second floors of the Greek Catholic Eparchy without proper library equipment. The absence of heating in these premises causes high humidity, breach of temperature conditions, and thus there are no conditions for proper storage of valuable books there, which leads to damage to the library fund.

The only way to save books at the library of UzhNU, particularly valuable copies, and to restore historical justice by returning the premises to the diocese of Cathedral is the relocation of the library collection to the University building and the establishment of the Visegrad Library based in the scientific library of UzhNU.

In order to resolve this problem, we ask for your assistance in allocation of funds for the implementation of this project for the reconstruction of the building of the Uzhgorod National University for the purposes of the Visegrad Library" – the letter to the ambassador states.
