The head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Valeriy Lunchenko, who also conrinues to serve as the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, commented on the scandalous case of "reconstruction" of Narodna Square in Uzhgorod as he understands it.
On the show "Top news" of the "Tisa-1" channel, V.Lunchenko said: "I never understood the problem, people are trying to make about the reconstruction of the square. The project is good and I believe that it should be finished. Compare the current appearance of the square with what it looked like a few months ago. As for me, the difference is huge. Of course, the completion of the reconstruction is not a priority. But I am convinced that the work should be completed. After that, I am sure, the square will become one of the hallmarks of not only Uzhgorod, but of all Transcarpathia."
That is, another official is trying to resolve this situation according to his own taste.
As Zakarpattya online previously reported, the reconstruction of the square, which is an architectural monument of local importance, was started last year, against the wishes of the public and professionals, by the former head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration, the head of the regional organization of the Party of Regions, Oleksandr Ledyda.
The contractors, who received contracts for these works with major violations of the law, for now have stopped working. Administrative charges were brought against a number of civil society activists and journalists for the protection of Narodna square.
Now the community of Uzhgorod initiate public hearings and, possibly, a competition, according to which it will be decided what to do with the stupid reconstruction, which destroyed the historic appearance of the square.
