The Botanical Garden has received three more species of rhododendrons (PHOTOS)

This year, in the Botanical Garden of UzhNU on Olbracht street in Uzhgorod, according to employees, almost everything bloomed a month earlier. Even some flowers, such as Sichuan rhododendron, which began to bloom back in February…

At the entrance to the Botanical Garden, Magnolia soulangeana welcomes with its purple egg-shaped flowers and its neighbor – Magnolia Kobus, which has white flowers, has already faded. Instead, flowers of other magnolias – white tripetala and purple liliflora – are yet to please the eyes of visitors, our guide, the deputy director of the garden Lyudmila Omelyanska says. Liliflora, by the way, blooms twice a year – in April and in August. But magnolia grandiflora, that pleases the eye during the summer, this year will not bloom. Three years ago, its roots got frozen, but they assure that it will be well the next year. Overall, our guide says, there are 11 species of magnolias in the garden. 

Next, the eye catches the pink sakura, that last year, they say, blossomed only on May 9. And nearby, one can see a diverse realm of rhododendrons. The collection now includes 26 species, Mrs. Lyudmila says. The Sichuan rhododendron began blooming back in February, the Schlippenbach rhododendron and others are blooming now. The rest of them will start to bloom a little later, and the Sims and the Japanese rhododendron will be blooming until June. Recently, they planted here three new species of rhododendrons, namely: Fortune, arborescens etc. They do not bloom yet.
