Regional SES revealed violations of sanitary standards for retail sale of watermelons and melons

Repeatedly through the media hygienist doctors informed the public on the rules of melon production retail sales, as well as indicators of its safety, especially nitrates content and pesticide residues, which are calculated in milligrams per kilogram of weight. 

Laboratory quality control of plant products when it comes to the markets is a function of veterinary medicine laboratories. SES monitors the conditions of retail sales of any food by taking samples to control parameters of its safety. Since 1994, the state has the law "On ensuring sanitary and epidemiological welfare", which secured the rights and duties of citizens, accountability of officials of the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service of Ukraine, disciplinary, administrative responsibility for violation of sanitary laws.

During the season of watermelons and melons violation of sanitary laws were recorded in 5 cases in which the administrative sanctions were applied, such as fines, orders to remove the melon production from the sale.

Exceeding of the maximum allowable level of nitrate in melon production was determined in one sample, representing 0.3% of the total measurements.
