Due to heavy rains, water levels in the main rivers of Transcarpathia have risen by 1.5 to 2.5 meters. In the mountainous area, the flood wave is passing with rise amplitude of up to 1 meter, in lowland areas water reaches the floodplain.

– As of the morning of Thursday (14.12), more than 300 hectares of agricultural land and pastures in the floodplains of the Uzh, Borzhava and Latorytsya rivers in Uzhgorod, Perechyn, Mukachevo, Beregovo, Irshava and Vynogradiv districts have been flooded, – Hennadiy Moskal said. – Two highways of local importance are also flooded: Shalansky – V. Komyaty in Vynogradiv district and Heyevtsi – Tisaagtelek in Uzhgorod district. Due to the sudden rise of water in the Uzh river, water supply system in the city of Perechyn had to be shut down.

The supply of central water will be resumed after the water in the river goes down. To reduce the effects of the weather, 12 pumping stations are pumping water out of agricultural land and adjoining villages.

The flood situation is not over and will develop further; in the next two to three days it is expected that the water level in the main rivers of the region will continue rising. Mobile pumping stations, as well as the required stock of bags and loose materials have been prepared.
