Gender equality. One law for all? (OPINION)

Yaroslava Hasynets – Uzhgorod city council deputy, head of the city organization of the party United Center – in her facebook expressed her opinion on compliance with the regulations of the law on political parties regarding gender quotas of women in party lists.

"The amendments to the law on political parties, which provided for 30% gender quota for women in the lists of candidates, were adopted back in 2013. The vast majority of political parties participating in the elections in Uzhgorod complied with this rule – at least 11 of 36 candidates for deputies of the city council must be women. But there will always be more equal among equals. And in our city, the law is binding not for all. For example, the presidential party "Solidarnist" can ignore the law and form a list with 4 women," – she writes.

And she adds: "Yesterday, there was a trial at the District Court of Transcarpathian region, where the claim on misconduct by the TEC, that in violation of the law registered the list of the Solidarnist, was considered. The court’s decision was predictable – despite the obvious violation of the law, the Solidarnist was allowed to take part in the election.

Of course, it is not uncommon for the authorities in our country to disregard the law. But I would like to hear the opinion on the matter of yesterday’s fighters for justice – members of the Public Convention, who are now on the list of the presidential party.
But, it is obviusly okay for them to talk at press conferences about honesty, openness, absence of money bags in the list and at the same time to clutter the city with expensive posters, erect expensive stage in the city for their own presentation, hang out in the most expensive hotels Old Continent and Prague. Very honestly. Very new way of living" – Yaroslava Hasynets wrote.
