Devastating floods in Transcarpathian region in the last 100 years (Infographic)

During this period, Transcarpathian rivers have burst their banks dozens of times, but in some cases the disaster had terrible consequences, the karpatnews.in.ua inform.

For example, the flood in 1947 led to the destruction of 33 bridges, flooding of two towns – Khust and Vylok. In 1992, the water caused trouble in the regional center – Uzhgorod, and destroyed 21 houses.

The most devastating was the flood of 1998 on the rivers of Tisa, Latorytsya, Tereblya, Teresva and Borzhava. 120 cities and villages were flooded, more than 2,500 houses were destroyed, 17 people died, 12 bridges, 48 ​​kilometers of roads were destroyed. More than 20,000 people had to be evacuated.

March 2001 brought the flood which killed 9 people, destroyed 2000 houses and more than 50 km of roads, flooded 255 cities and villages. 14 thousand people were evacuated from their homes.
