In the Transcarpathian town of Svalyava, unknown people shot stray dogs with rubber bullets on New Year’s Eve.
Animal rights advocates reported about the incident on Facebook.
Some injured dogs could not be saved.
Only one alabai dog was rescued.
Local and Uzhgorod animal rights activists, together with lawyers, arrived at the scene and appealed to the police of the Transcarpathian region to assist in the investigation of this crime.
Criminal responsibility is provided under Article 299 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, part 3:
"The actions mentioned in parts one or two of this Article, if committed with extreme cruelty, or in the presence of a minor, or against two or more animals, or repeatedly, or by a group of persons, or committed in an active manner, shall be punishable by imprisonment for a term of five to eight years."
"Remember that it’s important to keep bodies of dead animals and the recovered bullets – it is an evidence," – the movement for animals rights notes.
