In Uzhgorod, the celebration of the Day of St. Martin in Mukachevo was discussed. The celebration will take place on November 11 and is dedicated to the patron saint of the city – St. Martin (who is depicted on the emblem of Mukachevo). The holiday program includes extraordinary and interesting events and attractions.
Zoltan Lendyel, mayor of Mukachevo said that the city has several well-known festivals that went beyond the local level, in particular "Red wine," Minorities Theatre Festival, holiday "Mukachevo convenes friends" and others. "In November there is not a single festival in Mukachevo – said Zoltan Lendyel – We decided to change that. The initiative group has been created. Mukachevo has its patron St. Martin, but we do not use this brand. In many European countries, especially in France, this saint’s day is widely celebrated, attracting schoolchildren who go marching with lanterns. Besides the holiday marks the beginning of the opening of the first barrel of new wine. After this the wine from the previous harvest becomes old."
The organizers are persecuting also an educational purpose – to introduce the historical figure to youth and schoolchildren.
The scenario is already developed, a theater will be involved to theatricalize this event. It is planned that St. Martin will ride the city on horseback. The cost of the holiday is 100 thousand UAH, partly – sponsor funds, partly – the expenses of the local budget.
Oleksandr Koval, head of Tourinfocenter Transcarpathia added that as part of the celebration master class on making lanterns will be held.
Mykhailo Kolodko, sculptor added that while creating lanterns, kids will find a lot of forms and associations. In the city center a tent will be located, where three volunteer artists will show adults and children how to make lanterns.
The holiday is planned to be held on a regular basis, the corresponding decree was issued by the mayor. The celebrations begin on November 11 at 17.00.
