On June 16, a two-week social campaign, during which children and adults will be taught to swim in 8 lessons, will be launched in Uzhgorod. From 9 am to 12 am, in the pool "Burevisnyk", Uzhgorod residents will be taught swimming. This was announced at the meeting of Uzhgorod Press Club by Robert Levitsky, the head of the Aquatics Federation of Transcarpathia.
Children aged 7 years and older are accepted. The registration will take place on June 16 from 8 to 10 am, at the "Burevisnyk." 8 lessons will cost 200 UAH (to pay to UzhNU that owns the pool).
Previously, people in Uzhgorod were taught to swim in the pool "Spartak", now there is no such place. But thanks to the enthusiasm of trainers, kids still learn to swim, they organized the Swimming School at the city gymnasium, the university provides its swimming pool. "We improved the statistic that was in 1990s, because as of 2003, 80% of students who entered the 1st year of UzhNU, could not swim 25 meters", – Robert Levitsky says. But the Federation every year finds ways to teach more children to swim.
"We do not want to give up. If the head of the region, city, district pays attention to the sport, there will be a progress – swimming coach Yuriy Pisarev says – The problem will not be solved only by parents. Uzhgorod supports swimming, and nobody else can. There used to be a 50-meter pool in Rakhiv, 25-meter one – in Velyky Bychkiv, there were masters and candidates of sports there. I appeal to those in power: build not only churches, restaurants, bathes. Even a 12.5-meter pool will allow to teach swimming. Every child must know how to swim."
