In late February Uzhgorod Mayor Victor Pogorelov "bursted" with a new "creative idea" – he ordered to hold the so-called "clean Fridays." In the document, he ordered to Uzhgorod citizens that each Fridays they have to arrange a cleaning day and clean the city. As usual, the idea is another "improvement" for regional center.
Thus, employees of any institution, organization or business of any form of ownership – must take rakes, brooms and shovels at their working day. They will plant greenery in Uzhgorod, collect and remove rubbish from their assigned territory.
Utility services and municipal police will control the cleaning and fine the violators.
Though last Friday snow covered the whole city, and there was no "clean Friday" so far. Vitaly Semal, the Deputy Mayor of Uzhgorod, who is responsible for implementation of the Mayor’s "creative idea" asserted: snow on Friday was cleaned by everyone, moreover we started to clean it the day before, on Thursday.
"In reality nothing has been cleaned, unless some celebrations happaned in the city … People could hardly clean snow themselves. So all those utilities are favourable situation together with the mayor, and receive salaries, while we need to do their job!
Vitaly Semal noted that "clean Fridays" should inspire citizens of Uzhgorod to noble intentions such as "clean Saturdays" and should be held regularly. And since Uzhgorod mayor is still full of creative ideas, soon we will see also "clean Mondays" and "clean Wednesdays".
