Transcarpathian deputies must be fasting: they want more fish

The Lent, which in Transcarpathia most people adhere to, obviously influenced the deputies. At least, yesterday at the session of the regional council, the members wished more fish. They adopted a program of fisheries development for the next three years and proposed to allocate 1.65 million hryvnias for its implementation.

The funds will be used for construction, reconstruction, repair of hydraulic structures, ponds, pools, increase of the production of commercial fish, formalizing the documentation for the use of water bodies for fish farming, the organization and development of amateur fishing in natural bodies of water.

Today, in the region there are nine reservoirs, of which six are used for fisheries development.

In the region, "Transcarpathian fish factory" Joint-Stock Company and "Transcarpathian breeding-reclamation plant" Joint-Stock Company work in this industry. In addition to these two major producers, 12 users of water bodies are engaged in fishery activities in aquaculture. During 2009 – 2011, on average they annually breeded 350 – 400 tons of fish, which is 307.7 tons less compared to 1995. Under the program it is provided that by 2016, the production of fish will increase to 1,000 tons a year.
