The Party of Regions satellite – Gajdos’s Democratic Party of Hungarians of Ukraine – at today’s session of the regional council again will demand to grant the Hungarian the regional language status in Transcarpathia.
Regional council member Stepan Medvid will speak with such an initiative.
Recall that at the end of the last year the Regional Council already adopted the decision on the implementation of the "language" law provisions, whereby they recommended city and village council to take note that alongside Ukrainian as the state language, Hungarian, Romanian and Ruthenian are also common as regional languages.
However the majority of deputies from the Party of Regions, the United Center, the Batkivshchyna and the Front of Changes this time are not going to grant the Hungarian the special status.
