"Exhibit and event tourism" was the title of this year’s seminar in Germany for Uzhgorod students of the tourism department. Several times a year, Darmstadt bureau of sister cities together with members of the World Tourism Organization SKAL, Darmstadt Southern Hessen Club organize educational seminars on various topics for Uzhgorod and other students. Since Transcarpathia is deemed to be the land of festivals and tourism events, they wanted to show students how German experts approach the organization of such events.
The week was very busy. The seminar began with visiting the tourism exhibition in Mainz – "Touristik", and the lecture from the organizer. We were told how, when and where to organize tourism exhibitions, how to attract guests and participants, how to present ourselves properly, what "eye-catcher" is and how to monitor success. Then they told us about the financial benefits of each business tourist for the city, showed the ecologic Congress Center Darmstadium, presented one of the events – CityMarketing Late Night Shopping – and its meaning for the city.
In addition to lectures and workshops, we also visited a number of Austrian and German cities. We started in Wels (Austria), then the German Venice – Passau, Darmstadt, Mainz, Munich, Salzburg, Shtaer, Vienna, Budapest.
Our students did not miss the opportunity of shopping in each city and confirmed in practice that every tourist, irrespective of the purpose of visit, is economically viable for the city.
Next trips are scheduled for the fall for students of foreign languages and physics faculties.
