The President hopes to sign the Association Agreement on June 27

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko hopes that the economic part of the agreement with the European Union will be signed on June 27.

Poroshenko said that during the meeting with the President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite, the UNIAN reported.

"From the first moment of my presidency I’ve been ready to sign the association agreement, now it all depends on the EU" – Poroshenko said.

He also recalled the events of November 2013 in Vilnius, when then President Viktor Yanukovych refused to sign the agreement at the last minute.

Presidents recalled that they then had a conversation in Vilnius, and Poroshenko said that he was convinced that the agreement would be signed anyway. Grybauskaite even suggested that the fact that Poroshenko never stopped believing in the people, believing in Ukraine and its European future helped him to become the president.

Poroshenko said that Ukraine had "passed the most difficult exam in its life and paid a very high price for it."

He expressed his hope that Ukraine is now able to move through reforms and modernization and promised to do everything for that.

Grybauskaite promised that Lithuania would continue to support Ukraine.

"If you continue to keep your word, your promise – what I’ve seen before and what I see now – then we will always respect the country and its leaders who fulfill their promises. It is very important, it is a new culture," – Grybauskaite said.
