The National Bank has explained the reasons for the acceleration of inflation

The National Bank attributes the acceleration in inflation in May to 3.8% to the increase in gas prices for the population.

This was announced by the press office of the regulator, the UNIAN reported.

"The increase in inflation for the month was primarily due to an increase in natural gas prices for households by 62.8%, which is caused by 1.4 percentage points in the change of the CPI," – the statement says.

The National Bank reminded that the core inflation in May was 2.3% and increased to 7.5% in annual terms, The non-core inflation in May was 5.2% for the month and increased to 14.2% in annual terms.

According to the NBU, the increase in the producer price index in May by 4.3%, and in annual terms by 8.8% was driven by an increase in the marginal price of gas for industrial enterprises by 17.5% and foreign exchange factor that stimulated the rise in prices in export oriented and import dependent industries.

It was reported that the inflation in Ukraine in May compared to April 2014 has accelerated to 3.8%, in annual terms the inflation has accelerated to 10.9%, since the beginning of 2014 – to 10.5%.

In May compared to April 2014, the greatest rise in prices was in those for natural gas – by 62.8%, fruits – by 10.4%, sugar – by 7.3%, fish and fish products – by 6.5%. Lower prices were recorded only for eggs – by 6.7%, milk – by 2.1%.
