The head of the unrecognized Seim of Subcarpathian Rusyns, the rector of the Cathedral of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) in Uzhgorod, Archpriest Dimitry Sidor urged Russia to the active work in Transcarpathia, to protect "vital interests of Russia" in the region, the "Religion in Ukraine", citing Interfax reported.
"Russian people need to realize that there is the eastern Slavic, Russian civilization. It starts with us, with Transcarpathia, and extends to Alaska" – the priest said, as quoted by Russia’s "Literaturnaya Gazeta."
The priest admitted that he was particularly "upset that, while remaining true to our common faith, Old Russian language", Rusyns do not receive "any help from Russia."
Recall that in 2012, the High Specialized Court of Ukraine for Civil and Criminal Cases upheld the sentence against Archpriest Dimitry Sidor made by the Appellate Court of Transcarpathian region – three years imprisonment on probation for two years. The head of the "Seim of Subcarpathian Rusyns" was criminally prosecuted for the memorandum adopted at the Congress of Rusyns on October 25, 2008 in Mukachevo. The text of the memorandum contained the "Declaration of restoration of Rusyn statehood".
In 2010, the leader of Rusyns, Archpriest Dimitry Sidor received blessing from Patriarch Kirill and took part in the European Russian Forum.
