The Prosecutor of the Transcarpathian region, for the purpose of supervision over the observance and application of laws, performed at the Chop customs the audit of compliance with the requirements of the customs legislation in the customs clearance of goods. Prosecutors revealed that customs officers had performed clearance of goods at a lower customs value, which caused loss to the state in the amount of nearly 3 million hryvnias.
On February 27, regional prosecutor’s office included the information about this fact into the Unified register of pre-trial investigation over the abuse of office by officials of the Uzhgorod customs, on the grounds of a criminal offense under Part 3 of Art. 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (punishable by imprisonment for a term of five to ten years with deprivation of the right to occupy certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term up to three years and forfeiture of property).
As a result of criminal acts commited by Uzhgorod customs officials, the state budget did not receive customs payments totaling almost 3 million hryvnias, thus the state suffered loss in the specified amount.
