Prosecutor’s office notified a weapons smuggler of the suspicion

The Prosecutors of Transcarpathian region notified a 36-year-old resident of Beregovo that he is suspected of transportation of ammunition across the border of Ukraine hidden from customs control, committed by prior conspiracy (Part 2 of Art. 201 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The preliminary investigation revealed that the man had agreed by phone with an unidentified person from Italy to smuggle the ammunition into the territory of Ukraine.

The Italian hid the parcel with three hand grenades and one thousand of U.S. dollars, among food in a detergent box and sent it with a minibus en route to Ukraine.

While receiving the parcel, the resident of Beregovo was detained by officers of the Security Service of Ukraine Office in Transcarpathian region, on the outskirts of Mukachevo.

Thus, the man, who is reasonably suspected of having committed a criminal offense under Part 2 of Art. 201 of the CC of Ukraine, faces punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of five to twelve years with confiscation of contraband and forfeiture of property.
