A pilot project for the commissioning of a historic train on the Borzhava narrow-gauge railway is being implemented Transcarpathia

The Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine jointly with partners from Germany and Switzerland, and with the support of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration, is implementing a pilot project for the commissioning of a historic train on the Borzhava narrow-gauge railway. It is planned under the project that in August this year, a locomotive GR-280 will be delivered to Transcarpathia from the city of Haivoron (Kirovohrad region). The train will be running on the narrow gauge between Irshava, Khmilnyk and Vynogradiv twice a week, on Fridays and Saturdays.

The locomotive will drive three passenger cars and a cargo car for bikes, small cargo and catering. All cars are local, ie from the Borzhava narrow-gauge railway. The details of the pilot project were discussed with the advisor to the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Sebastian Trolle and the head of the NGO Michael Schneeberger.

– Mr. Schneeberger has an experience of restoration of a narrow-gauge railway in Romania, which became one of the most attractive tourist sites of the country – the head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration said. – We will make every effort to restore the Borzhava narrow-gauge railway, and this pilot project is only the first part in the implementation of these plans.
