Hitchhiking from Europe: a Russian with expired documents failed to get to Odesa from Hungary

Yesterday, March 13, at the international crossing point "Tisa," border guards detained a man who was trying to illegally enter the territory of Ukraine.

One of the border guard units in the dusk found a man who was heading to Ukraine in an unlawful manner. During the interview, the offender told the border guards that he was a citizen of the Russian Federation and was heading to the city of Odesa.

Later the border guards found out that the detained Russian had worked in one of the countries of Western Europe, but due to job loss decided to go to his relatives living in Odesa region. However, the validity of his passport had expired and did not allow him to cross the border.

Given this fact, the migrant worker decided to take a chance and, hiding behind trucks, tried to get into the Ukrainian border crossing point. The risk was not justified – the man was detained by border guards.

He is currently awaiting for the court decision and return to Hungary in the manner provided for by the Agreement between the EU and Ukraine on readmission.
