EU promises visa-free regime for Ukrainians already this year

Ukraine may get visa-free regime with the EU by the end of this year.

This was stated by the Ambassador of European Union to Ukraine Jan Tombinski, at the international conference "Implementation of the Association Agreement: where to start?" in Kyiv on Thursday, "Interfax-Ukraine" reported.

"A final decision has not yet been adopted (on the transition to the second phase of the plan of action – Ed.), I think it will be adopted soon. And if that happens, it means that we have very good prospects to introduce visa-free travel by the end of this year" – Tombinski said.

The Ambassador reminded that the European Commission had given a positive assessment of the implementation of the first phase of the action plan on visa liberalization with the EU and recommended to proceed to the second phase of this document.

Tombinski also noted that recently, EU members began discussing this issue, and there are positive opinions on transition of Ukraine to the second phase of implementation of the action plan for visa liberalization.

As you know, a source in the EU Council stated that on Wednesday, June 11, new circumstances affecting the Association Agreement with Ukraine had appeared. Meanwhile, Brussels has no plans to delay the signing and expects that all work will have been completed by June 27.
