Recently, in Transcarpathia, and the climate here in winter is mild and relatively warm, many people began acting on the principle of “gas is good, but wood is better.” And people go back to traditional way of house heating – with wood.

“I did not think that I would become a pastry cook. Perhaps, because I had not enough sweets as a child, when I was three years old, I promised myself that I would do anything in life just to have a plenty of them around me. Then, when I was a little older, I understood that in order to have enough of that, you must actually work with that”, – the most famous Ukrainian confectioner Valentin Shtefanyo says.
Father Ivan is 44 years old. In civilian life, he lives in Uzhgorod, works as a judicial vicar, chairs the ecclesiastical tribunal of Mukachevo Greek Catholic diocese. And now, he sits in the trenches near Debaltseve morally supporting our soldiers and helping them to survive all the horrors of war. He has spent in the ATO area 3 months. Now, he is serving in the area of Debaltseve, Chornukhyne, Popasna – the “hottest” spots. Here, our Transcarpathian guys from the 128th mountain and infantry brigade are serving too.
They say: “What people say shows their way of thinking, and what people make with their own hands reveals their soul.” Recently, Uzhgorod residents saw the “soul” of our region.

Probably, none of Uzhgorod residents is indifferent to outdoor political advertising. The city and its surroundings are littered with big faces and promising slogans. So it seems at first glance. In fact, Uzhgorod is littered with money which could have been used much better.

In late August, 9 members of the “Carpathian Sich” youth sports and patriotic organization left from Uzhgorod to the ATO zone. The boys joined the Ukrainian Volunteer Corps that helps the regular army to hold approaches to the Donetsk airport. Recently they returned home – without losses and injuries. The head of the “Carpathian Sich” Taras Deyak told the “Uzhgorod” what they saw at the forefront.

31-year-old Uzhgorod resident Dmytro Holovaty in 2004 served 8 months as a peacekeeper in Iraq, however, he could not have imagined that he would have to go through war not there but at home. Dima miraculously escaped from the “Ilovaisk mousetrap”. Currently, he and other wounded soldiers is being treated in a military hospital in Mukachevo, had some operations on the hand. He still cannot control injuried fingers and constantly hears noise in the head. But the worst thing is that he just can not sleep without sedation, because every night he dreams again and again that he is attacking…
