No phones in class. New rule in Uzhhorod schools

A mobile phone has become an integral part of our lives. For today’s children, it’s even hard to believe that phones once were only stationary and certainly not personal. However, today many parents ask themselves – should students be allowed to bring mobile phones to school? After all, it is a source of not always useful information and harmful radiation, which adversely affects the development of a child’s organism.

In one form of Uzhgorod school number 3, an experiment was launched a month ago. Children do not carry their phones during lessons and breaks. The parents’ initiative to restrict the use of mobile phones during the educational process was approved by the school leadership and the class teacher.

 "In many schools abroad, the use of phones by students during lessons was so massive that it was decided to completely ban the use of phones in these schools. Cell phones have become a real and very topical problem for the teachers. That is why we, naturally, supported the initiative of parents to restrict access to mobile phones in classes. We hope that students will understand such innovation." – the director of the school №3 Svitlana Fesenko says

To this end, the classroom was equipped with a safe, in which students leave their cell phones before lessons. The key to the safe is kept by the teacher. If necessary, a student can call parents without problems. On breaks, instead of playing games on the phone, children are invited to play mister-twister and other games right in the hall of the school.

"The most important thing for parents is, of course, to be always in touch with a child. It is convenient to be able to call a child at any moment and find out where he or she is and what is up to. But it is also evident that phones distract children from learning. Unfortunately, you cannot argue with that. Schoolchildren use phones in a variety of ways, and often not for very good ends. We are very pleased that our children responded positively to the innovation." – a schoolgirl’s mother says.

The first month of the experiment has already brought results. The schoolchildren have become more calm, focused in class and improved their performance.
