The Strymba Mountain – the highest and the most beautiful peak of the National Park “Synevyr” (PHOTOS)

Summer is the best time to break away from the monotony of everyday life, take a backpack and go to the mountains.  The peaceful and quiet Carpathians will be the best therapy for all problems, and clean air and outdoor activities will be the panacea for all ills. Going into hiking, tourists often choose the highest mountain in the region. In the National Park "Synevyr" such peak is the Strymba Mountain which is 1719 meters high and towers over the village of Kolochava.

Strymba (strimb – concave) is one of the highest mountains of the Carpathians and the most beautiful peak of Mizhhirya district, an extremely popular place for tourists. The climb to the mountain will be long remembered thanks to exciting landscapes, unique natural pictures, amazing animal and plant diversity.   The length of the route is 15 km, it lies at an altitude of 550 to 1719 masl. On the way, there are places for rest and natural sources. It goes through beech forest, with some spruce and fir trees, and ends in the mountain plains.

The Strymba ridge consists of several hills and has a length of 3000 meters. At the top, there are stone deposits, juniper bushes and a plain. The slopes are generously covered with blueberry bushes, which bear fruit in July and August. 

On the eastern side of the Strymba ridge, at an altitude of 1600 meters above sea level, there is a picturesque lake, 8 meters in length and 4 meters in width. The maximum depth of the unique mountain reservoir is a little more than one meter. The water in the lake is quite muddy and it is fed only by precipitation.  No fish live in the pond, but there is the Carpathian newt. This tailed amphibian lives well in the mountains, even at the height of two thousand meters above sea level, so the Strymba is not its limit. By the way, this species is listed in the Red Book of Ukraine and is protected by law.

At the very top of the mountain, there is a wooden cross, established by a group of Kolochava residents in 2008. The height of the cross is 4 m 10 cm, the width is 2 m 10 cm.  

Every year, August 23, on the Day of the national flag Ukraine, employees of the National Park "Synevyr" set a blue and yellow flag atop of the Strymba.
