In the national park "Synevyr" in Transcarpathia, the tourist season has started. Every day, hundreds of tourists from Ukraine and from abroad visit the park. In addition to the Synevyr Lake – one of the seven natural wonders of Ukraine, tourists are most interested in the only in the Carpathians rehabilitation center for brown bears.
The Rehabilitation center for brown bears was opened in January 2011 on the basis of the reserve. First, they kept only two bears there. Now, 12 brown bears live in the center – 10 adults and two 18-month-old cubs. Most of them have already undergo full rehabilitation and feel free in their natural environment.
"We fenced 12 hectares of the forest for bears with metal mesh and electroshepherd. Animals are doing well, here they live in semi-captivity. Since the Rehabilitation center is the largest in Ukraine, we receive dozens of requests to take bears, that are kept in inappropriate conditions, to the center. Therefore, the number of bears in the center will increase", – the Director of the National Park "Synevyr" Mykola Derbak says.
The brown bear is the largest predator of Ukraine, a typical inhabitant of vast forests, in the Carpathians, it lives in the old mountain forests. Only 200-300 species live in the wild.
