About 670 Transcarpathian children are waiting for their dads and moms

The number of children in our region continues to grow. While in 2012, there were 286,628 of them, in 2013, there were 287,889 children.

However, not all of them are being brought up with parental love. As of April 1, there are 2,361 orphans and children deprived of parental care registered in the region. This was discussed during the meeting at the Chief of the Juvenile Service Svitlana Yakimelina, on eve of the International Children’s Day, which is celebrated today, the press service of the RSA informed.

Currently, 376 children (15.9%) are being brought up in orphanages and foster families.

– On the positive side, most of the children are covered with family-based care. In the region, there are 40 family-type children’s homes and 65 foster families – Svitlana Yakimelina said.

In the Transcarpathian region, there are 671 children that can be adopted. During 2013, 67 children were adopted (47 – by citizens of Ukraine, and 20 – by foreigners), during January-May 2014, 30 children, including 26 – by citizens of Ukraine, have been adopted.
