March 26, during a press conference in Uzhgorod, the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine Oleg Proskuryakov commented on probable elimination of the State Department of Environmental Protection in Transcarpathian region.
– We obviously have not covered this issue properly, so I will explain. In no way, Departments of Environmental Protection will be liquidated. The authority is liquidated in the structure of the former Ministry of Environment. Now, as you know, it is the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine. Previously. the bodies were part of the ministry and managed from Kyiv, and with the head of regional administration, we only agreed on the appointment of the chief. Which, by the way, sometimes was pure formality.
Given that governors are closer to the environmental problems of their regions, already from May 18, departments of environmental protection will be subordinate to regional administrations. That is, the head of the region will directly manage them and solve issues related to, inter alia, Transcarpathia. Of course, the Ministry will not be out of the process – we will keep important issues under control. So, I can assure, the department will continue to operate, – the minister said.
