White smoke over the Sistine Chapel may appear already on March 12

The new Pope will be elected on March 12 under the rules established by the apostolic constitution, reported the Mirror Weekly. Such a decision was taken by 115 cardinals of the Roman Catholic Church at the general congregation (meeting) on March 8.

According to the special rescript "motu proprio", signed by Benedict XVI in June 2007, his successor must score at least two-thirds of the votes of the conclave participants.

Currently, the Vatican operates in a "vacant throne" mode, which began on February 28 after the 265th Pope Benedict XVI concluded his ministry as the pontiff.
