The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky phoned today (23.05) the Acting Head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Yaroslav Halas to hear the latest information on the aftermath of the flood in Transcarpathia.
Y.Halas reported on the situation in the districts of the region in the basin of the Uzh, Tisa and Borzhava rivers regarding the number of flooded yards and farmland, destroyed bank fortifications and infrastructure, possible human casualties (an accident with an 11-year-old schoolboy in Volovets, who fell to the river and has not been found yet). He also informed about the meeting of the Operational Headquarters of the Regional Commission on Technogenic and Environmental Safety and Emergencies, at which the instructions on flood control procedures were given to district state administrations, local governments, regional offices of the State Emergencies Service, Tisa River Water Resources, National Police, Road Service.
– A more complete picture of the devastating effects of the bad weather will be known next week, as soon as the district commissions carry out an inventory and assess the damage done, – Y. Halas said. – But it is already evident that Transcarpathia will have to appeal to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine with a request to allocate funds from the reserve fund for the disaster relief. The President instructed the regional state administration to keep the situation under control and assured that, if necessary, he was ready to personally fly to Transcarpathia to control the flood relief efforts.
