“Zakarpattyaoblenergo” disconnects the water utility from electricity supply. Will Uzhgorod be left without water? (Chart)

"Zakarpattyaoblenergo" threatens to leave Uzhgorod without water

As we reported, the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry introduces schedules of power supply restrictions in Ukraine in connection with emerging shortage of fuel and hydro resources. These schedules provide for limitations on electricity and power supply. 

In addition to the emergence of fuel shortage in the energy sector of Ukraine, the need for introduction of schedules of electricity consumption is caused by incomplete payment for electricity by consumers. This applies primarily to utility companies, which often have debts to power companies.

In particular, today there is an ongoing tendency to accumulation of debts for electricity at the ME "Uzhgorod Vodokanal", which is a major problem, considering energy shortage. 

  Thus, for example, in January 2014, the ME "Uzhgorod Vodokanal" paid for electricity 37% of the required amount; in February 2014, the consumer did not pay for electricity at all; and in March of this year, the water utility paid for electricity 32% of the required amount. As a result, for 7 months of 2014, the consumer’s debt for active power has increased by 1,636,000 UAH, and the total debt for active power as of August 1, 2014 amounts to 2,579,000 UAH, which, respectively, indicates improper performance of obligations assumed by the ME "Uzhgorod Vodokanal" under the terms of the signed Agreement on electricity supply.

Considering the failure to perform obligations imposed on the ME "Uzhgorod Vodokanal", as well as in order to enhance the process of debt repayment and to resolve outstanding issues on full and timely payments for electricity, the "Zakarpattyaoblenergo" PJSC, according to para. 7.5 of the Rules for electricity use, announces the complete termination of the supply of electric energy to the facilities of the ME "Uzhgorod Vodokanal", starting from 18.08.2014 in accordance with the schedule (for the schedule of termination (limitation) of the supply of electric energy to the facilities of the ME "Uzhgorod Vodokanal" see the document).

"Zakarpattyaoblenergo" PJSC asks the community and the city authorities of Uzhgorod to intervene in this situation and contribute to its resolution concerning the full payment for the consumed electricity by the ME "Uzhgorod Vodokanal". "Zakarpattyaoblenergo" PJSC sent letters with the request to help solve the problem to all agencies that have the authority to influence the situation – Transcarparthian Regional State Administration, Uzhgorod City Council, the Office of the Security Service of Ukraine and the Prosecutor’s Office in Transcarpathian region.
