You can not put a policeman near every flower bed, we have to stop thieves ourselves!

Yesterday uzhgorod.in already wrote that Uzhgorod city government is trying to beautify the city with flowers, and that some villains steal plantations, destroying the beauty of the city and the results of many people’s work. An appeal of Uzhgorod Mayor Bogdan Andriyiv was posted on Facebook that we repost here. We should reflect on it and ask ourselves, who we really are – barbarians or civilized people? And make certain conclusions.

"Dear citizens of Uzhgorod!

In these spring days, for the first time in many years, flowers, bushes of roses are being massively planted in Uzhgorod. Significant funds from the budget of the community are allocated for this, dozens of workers of the contracting company are creating whole compositions.

Therefore, it is a shame that there are villains who steal plants, destroying the beauty of the city. In particular, almost fifty roses have disappeared from the flower bed on the ring road on Mynaiska Street, on Kirpa Square near the stations, flowers that were already blooming on Cyril and Methodius Square. In autumn, the daffodils planted on Poshtova Square were stolen along with bulbs. At night, even the marigolds making up the emblem of Uzhgorod near the city council were stolen.

We have already sent to the National Police units a letter specifyinging all the spots, where flowers are planted, with a request to pay special attention to them in order to prevent thefts. However, I hope that every Uzhgorod resident will not be indifferent to such outrages, and if they become a witness or get information about anything like this, they will notify the police and the duty officer of the City Council that works around the clock (tel. 61-55-35). The future of our Uzhgorod depends on our joint efforts."
