XII Documentary Film Festival DOCUDAYS UA will be held in Uzhgorod (PROGRAM)

In Uzhgorod Press Club, there was a press conference of the organizers of the XII traveling festival of documentary films on human rights DOCUDAYS UA, which starts in Uzhgorod on October 16 and will run until November 5.

The theme of this year’s festival events is "Propaganda" as the attention of all Ukrainian is focused on the war in the East. This war is called hybrid because it started long before firing, first of all, by weapons of media and propaganda. Therefore, Uzhgorod Docudays UA opens on October 16, at 18:30 in  the "ILKO" Exhibition Center (Koshitska st., 28) with a film from the program PROPAGANDA "Ash and Money" by Tiyto Oyasoo and Ene-Liis Semperi. At the closing of the festival on October 24, the film "This is my land" by Tamara Erde will be shown. The two video works concern important areas of public life – education and politics.

Natalia Kabatsiy, the Director of the Charitable Organization "Medical Aid Committee in Transcarpathia" said: "Docudays is always in tune with the times. Last year the theme of the festival was military, the year before that – flaming hearts, now – the war. Not only in literal sense, but also in everyday life and in terms of propaganda, which is used very often, unfortunately. It can have both positive and negative effects, but we see that our neighbors use this tool to generate hatred between the two neighboring countries."

This year, according to N. Kabatsiy, there is a separate section "Effect of Georgia" since propaganda began to be actively used during the famous Georgian events. A new program "Docu-children" was also introduced.

Some screenings will take place in Uzhgorod National University, who is also a partner of the festival. Maria Mendzhul, the Director of the NGO CAHR "Vested", Associate Professor of International Private Law, Justice and Advocacy of the Faculty of Law of UzhNU stressed that the entrance to all screenings is free. The festival is not commercial and not political. There are also short films for children. For the second time, the competition of creative works and photographs "Human rights in Uzhgorod through eyes of children" will take place during the festival. On November 5, there will be an exhibition of the best works of students in the categories: best picture, poem, story, photo.  There will also be the event "Living Book" where youth will be able to talk with IDPs, representatives of national and ethnic groups, celebrities of the city.
