On March 30, at 19:00, jazz bassist David Friesen (USA) and sax player Joe Menis (USA) – legends of the world jazz scene – will perform in the art center ILKO Gallery.
David Frisen is an American jazz bass player, playing upright bass and Oregon bass – electrified acoustic bass.
Friesen is one of two or three bass players in the world who can hold audience’s attention during a solo concert. He has performed in the US, Canada, UK, Sweden, of Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, Turkey, Japan, Australia, South America, and now in Ukraine. His 1989 album "Other Times, Other Places" hit number 11 in the Billboard charts of jazz albums.
David Friesen’s music is imbued with different ingredients of jazz, characterized by mixing Jewish folk and classical melodies, lyrical power and warmth.
Joe Menis is still quite a young, but very experienced jazz musician and teacher who lives in Eugene, Oregon, USA.
He plays soprano saxophone and alto saxophone with Alan Jones sequencer. He has toured Europe with David Friesen, regularly plays in David’s quartet and quintet.
The CD "Risky Notion" was named the best album in 2015. Menis also played with Dr. Thomas Marfuno and Blacks Unlimited, including a performance in the Carnegie Hall. He also performed with George Coligan Quartet, Chuck Israel Jazz Orchestra, etc.
