On January 24, an exhibition "Family Vernissage" – painting and woodcarving works of father and son Mykhailo and Vitaliy Kinches from Mizhhirya district – opened in the "Uzhgorod" gallery.
Both are woodcarvers, both graduated from the Uzhgorod School of Applied Arts, both are members of the Mizhhirya Artist Association "Carpathian Colours".
However, at the exhibition Kinch Jr. presented woodcarving, and Kinch Sr. – paintings.
The exhibition was opened by the head of Transcarpathian organization of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine Boris Kuzma, who noted that, unfortunately, nowadays, traditional carving is not going through the best of times. This kind of decorative art is getting forgotten.
Mykhailo Kinch lives in Mizhhirya district, so his works depict valleys, shepherds with sheep, countryside life. Vitaliy lives in Uzhgorod, he mostly depicts sacred subjects.
Vitaliy has been working with wood for 10 years, he was a laureate of the Battle of the Carvers for the most complex work, and now continues his own series – wooden churches of Transcarpathia carved on plates
