The information, which came from the Presidential Administration of Ukraine, is quite relevant for Transcarpathians. It is no secret that many Transcarpathians have more than one passport.
It says that people with multiple passports will be deprived of Ukrainian citizenship.
The President Petro Poroshenko submitted to the Parliament a bill amending the law on the citizenship of Ukraine regarding the right to change citizenship (№6175).
The bill was registered on Monday, March 13. Text of the document and supporting documents have not yet been posted on the site of the Parliament.
"The bill concerns the issue of dual citizenship. According to this law, a person, who has voluntarily acquired the citizenship of a foreign state, shall be treated as such, that falls under the requirements of termination of Ukrainian citizenship," – the representative of the President in the Verkhovna Rada Artur Gerasimov said at a news briefing on Monday.
"This issue applies only to situations of voluntary acquisition of citizenship of another country. This does not apply to situations with our people in the Crimea because it was not voluntary," – Gerasimov said.
Recall that under the provisions of Art. 4 of the Constitution of Ukraine, Ukraine has only one nationality. However, the legislation does not provide for punishment for having passports of other countries.
