The Czech Republic plans to make citizenship for Transcarpathians easier

The Czech government is considering a bill that will simplify the procedure for obtaining citizenship by descendants of the citizens of the Czechoslovak Republic before 1938, the tyden.cz reported.

If the bill is supported in the parliament, future applicants will be able to obtain Czech citizenship on the basis of documents confirming loss of Czech or Czechoslovak citizenship by one of their parents or grandparents.

Such a law will make it possible for many Transcarpathian people to obtain the citizenship of the Czech Republic, because Transcarpathian region, under the name of Subcarpathian Rus, was a part of the Czechoslovak Republic during 1919-1938.
