Will there be a Bicycle Center in Uzhgorod

Uzhgorod will have a chance to become a European city. As reported in the media close to the City Council, soon they plan to open a special bicycle center in Uzhgorod. They have identified its location – it will be the Bozdosh park. And from there they are going to start construction of bicycle lanes, the "Zakarpatska Pravda" reported.

The Deputy Mayor of Uzhgorod Yuri Belyakov told about the planned scheme of the cycling infrastructure: "Studentska embankment – Nezalezhnist embankment – Druzhba Narodiv Square – Leo Tolstoy st. – Kyivska embankment – S. Petofi Sq. – Teatralna Sq. – Korzo st. – Augustin Voloshin st.

Specific proposals for the organization of cycling infrastructure in Uzhgorod will be announced at the next meeting of the working group on these issues, scheduled for tomorrow, November 11.

The project will be financed from the grant project funded by Poland.

The new project, the publication says, should solve the "war for the territory" in the historical part of Uzhgorod between pedestrians and cyclists. Recall, the decision of the City Hall to ban bikes to ride in the center caused a stir among the public. Therefore, two-wheeled "riders" "continue to ride in the pedestrian area. Municipal police have not learned to follow all violators and cyclists simply do not obey the decisions of local authorities," – the publication says.
