Wild animals and birds in the forests of Transcarpathia have been counted

An annual important job – inventory (accounting) of the wildlife in all hunting ranges – has been carried out in Transcarpathian region.

The animal accounting was carried out mainly by the noise and route methods and by observation at feeding locations. Such methods have made it possible to more accurately determine the number of game animals and their habitats at the ranges.

As a result of the inventory, it is estimated that currently the hunting grounds are inhabited by the following species: European deer – 1840 (10% increase); mouflon – 218; deer – 130; roe – 7814; boar – 3862; wolf – 137; hare – 23405; muskrat – 974; fox – 3273; badger – 1328; ermine – 27; ferret – 785; marten – 4592; badger – 1221; birds: pheasant – 34578, partridge – 9895; grouse – 689; hazel hen – 2313.

The annual accounting was conducted to calculate limits of wild game hunting in the next hunting season. The accounting will also allow to identify places densely populated by animals for future planning of biotechnical and protection measures.
