What, where, when on the weekend in Transcarpathia (21-22 of January)

January 21 – on the occasion of the Day of Unification, the unfurling of a 100-meter-long flag of Ukraine by the Society "Lemko" and patriots. Everyone is welcomed. The beginning is at 12.30 (Latirsky pass, Volovets district).

January 21 – the celebration of the Day of Unification of Ukraine. The beginning is at 10.00 (at the bust of Taras Shevchenko, Vynogradiv).

January 21 – from the educational platform Nomen: lecture of the professor of the Faculty of International Policy, Management and Business, the Director of the Center for International Security and Euro-Antlantic Itegration, the head of the EU Information Centre in Uzhgorod National University, Doctor of Sciences Igor Todorov on "The Geopolitics of Transcarpathia: Opportunities and Challenges". The following issues will be discussed: the historical background of the geopolitical role of Transcarpathia in Central and Eastern Europe.

Transcarpathia during Kyiv Rus and under ruling of the Kingdom of Hungary; role of Mukachevo Diocese of the Greek Catholic Church in Transcarpathia; "Golden Age" under Czechoslovak Republic, geopolitical intentions of the USSR and hybrid warfare with Czechoslovak Republic; political Rusynism and its roots; multiculturalism of contemporary Transcarpathia as a result of historical processes. Business, cultural and political influences Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Romania, cross-border cooperation; prospects for the region in the context of European geopolitics. The beginning is at 14.00 (entrance to the lecture is 50 UAH). (Owl’s Nest, Uzhgorod).

January 21 – reporting and election conference of the District Football Federation. The beginning is at 12.00 (District House of Children’s Art, Irshava).

January 22 – events to Day of Unification of Ukraine. 10.45 – opening of the memorial plaque to the chairman of the Central Council of the Ukrainian People’s Republic Mykhailo Hrushevsky on the facade of the House of Trade Unions (Narodna Square, 3). Laying of flowers to the monument to Taras Shevchenko. At 11.00, in honor of the Act of Unification, young people will unfurl on Narodna Square a 100-meter-long flag of Ukraine and make a solemn procession along Nezalezhnist embankment to the monument of the president of Carpatho-Ukraine Augustin Voloshin. 

January 22 – concert of the variety and brass band (artistic director – Honored Artist of Ukraine Volodymyr Spivak). Along with the brass band, the string band of the Chamber Orchestra of the Philharmonic will perform on the main stage of the region. The beginning is at 16.00 (Regional Philharmonic, Uzhgorod).

January 22 – the exhibition of paintings by the artist Zoltan Gogola. The beginning is at 12.00 (Ferenc Pastor center, Betlen st., 2, Beregovo).

January 22 – "Human Chain". The NGO "Students United" invites to come together under a blue and yellow flag, and show everyone that east and west are together. The beginning is at 15.00  (Teatralna Sq,, Uzhgorod).

January 22 – performance "Fern Blossom" (Yu.Chori) (25 UAH). The beginning is at 12.00; the play "The Good Soldier Svejk" (director – honored artist of Ukraine Vasyl Shershun) (30-80 UAH). The beginning is at 18.00 (Regional Music and Drama Theater, Uzhgorod).

– On the occasion of the Day of Hungarian Culture, traveling exhibition "Folk costumes of the Carpathian Basin." The project presents the most typical folk costumes of inhabitants of the Carpathian Basin from the collection of György Barna kept in the Otto Hermann Museum in Miskolc (Hungary), which includes a total of 280 folk costumes from 120 settlements of 19 regions. Every day (except Tuesday) 10.00 – 18.00 (Museum of Folk Architecture and Life, Uzhgorod).

– Exhibition of contemporary art "Ontology. PROCESS – 3. New Realism". The exhibition features several dozen paintings, art objects made of blown glass and ceramics, metal, plaster and wood by contemporary artists: Angelina Hafynets, Oleksiy Dynnyk, Victor Demin, Ivan Ilko, Mykhailo Ilko, Vasyl Kadar, Valentin Kuzan, Beata Korn, Victor Melnychuk, Ivan Nebesnyk, Nata Popova, Oleg Putrashyk, Petro Ryaska, Taras Tabaka, Albina Tabaka, Natalia Tarnay, Oleg Tokar, Emma Tremba, Ruslan Tremba, Vadim Kharabaruk, Mykhailo Khodanych, Natalia Shevchenko, Volodymyr Pavlyshyn. Tuesday-Saturday – 11.00-21.00, Sunday – 12.00-19.00 (art center "Ilko Gallery", Koshitska st., Uzhgorod).

– Exhibition and sale of works by Transcarpathian artists (P.Sholtes, P.Svalyavchyk, O.Kashshay, V.Kohutych, R.Pylyp, others) (2nd floor of the supermarket "Dastor" Uzhgorod).

– Exhibition "Christmas in Irshava district in 1920s – 1930s (about 200 exhibits, including ancient dens). Every day (except Monday) 10.00 – 18.00 (Transcarpathian local lore museum, Uzhgorod).

– New Year’s exhibition: retro Christmas tree encompassing nearly 80 years of a bygone era, Christmas postcards, covering the time period of 100 years.

 The oldest ones date back to the Austro-Hungarian Empire (1916, 1918) (during the holidays – by appointment) (District Historical and Local Lore Museum, Irshava).
