The high-level official came to Transcarpathia with unofficial one-day visit. The main purpose is to visit the Transcarpathian Hungarian Institute named after Ferenc Rákóczi II in Beregovo and to sign the agreement on the support of the institute. At the beginning of March, the government of the neighboring country allocated 500 million forints (just over two million dollars) to support the Institute in 2013. Over the next three years, the institute will receive more than one billion forints.
The first item of the visit of Viktor Orban – the meeting with the Head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Oleksandr Ledyda – took place on the Ukrainian side of the checkpoint "Luzhanka-Berehshuran." During today’s informal meeting they continued to discuss the relevant for Transcarpathia topic of the border infrastructure development.
The Hungarian party has reaffirmed the intention to collaborate for improving the crossing points infrastructure and for extension of Beregovo bypass road to join it with the motorway in the direction of the Berehshuran in Hungary. Viktor Orban asked about Hungarian-Ukrainian border crossing points and praised the infrastructure and level of service at the checkpoint "Luzhanka-Berehshuran."
After the meeting, in his comments to journalists Oleksandr Ledyda said:
– Private visit of such high rank official as the Prime Minister to Transcarpathia suggests that the Hungarian party support further development of cooperation with our country. And the fact that Viktor Orbán came to support local institute proves a special role of Transcarpathia. During the conversation, the high-ranking once again stressed that Hungary supports the European aspirations of Ukraine.
