Ukraine is optimistic about the future of the relations with Hungary and hopes to reach compromises in order to resolve the situation taking into account the interests of both countries.
This was stated by the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba during a meeting with the press following a visit to NATO Headquarters in Brussels, the Ukrinform reports.
"Hungary is not a problem in our relations with NATO right now; we now have cautious optimism with Hungary. Since the beginning of the year, some things have happened that allow us to look forward to further steps – both for Ukraine and Hungary – to resolve the current situation", – the official said.
He reminded that the Ukraine-Hungary intergovernmental commission had been set up which is co-chaired by himself and the Hungarian Foreign and Trade Minister Peter Szijjarto.
At the same time, Kuleba stressed that he stands on the position of protecting Ukraine’s interests and intends to discuss it during a meeting with his Hungarian colleagues.
“Such a decision and a way out of the crisis should take into account both the interests of Ukraine and those of Hungary. It will not be a return to the situation that existed before the adoption of the Education Law by the Verkhovna Rada. But compromises must be sought. We will certainly look for compromise, and we expect that the Hungarian party will also compromise. We need a common decision taking into account the interests of both parties,” – the Ukrainian official said.
